Total Roblox developer earnings to more-than double in 2020

Developers on Roblox will earn a total of $250m this year.

At the sixth-annual Roblox Developer Conference, the company said that content creators are set to bring in more than-double – a 127 per cent increase – the revenue they did the prior year. In 2019, developers made $110m together.

This increase is partly driven by the newly-introduced Premium Payouts functionality, which allows creators to monetise their games with engagement. In June of this year, Roblox says that developers earned $2m through this scheme.

Roblox also revealed that its platform now boasts 150m monthly active users, an increase on the 115m that the company revealed in February of this year when it closed a Series G funding round that valued the firm at $4bn.

“The accomplishments of our developer community have eclipsed even our loftiest expectations; I am incredibly impressed by the unique and creative experiences being introduced on the Roblox platform,” CEO and founder David Baszucki (pictured) said.

“Our focus is to give developers the tools and resources they need to pursue their vision and create larger, more complex, more realistic experiences and collectively build the Metaverse.”
