The CEO of software and games giant Microsoft Satya Nadella has said that remote working might not be all it's cracked up to be.
Speaking to The New York Times, the exec described the move from workers being based in an office to doing their jobs from home as "replacing one dogma with another dogma." Nadella also said that you'd lose a great deal by working remotely on a permanent basis.
“What does burnout look like? What does mental health look like? What does that connectivity and the community building look like?" Nadella said.
"One of the things I feel is, hey, maybe we are burning some of the social capital we built up in this phase where we are all working remote. What’s the measure for that?”
Working from home has become the default for many people due to the COVID-19 coronavirus which has swept the world. Software like Zoom and Microsoft's own Teams app have become hugely popular given that in most parts of the world, people can't go into the office.
Microsoft has seen record Xbox Live usage due to the coronavirus pandemic, as well as an increase in people subscribing to its Game Pass service and a spike in engagement on its Mixer streaming platform.
