Risk of Rain 2 fails to wash Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice from Steam top spot

Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is holding onto its chart-topping success despite a sudden risk of adverse weather.

From Software’s feudal fighter launched at No.1 in the Steam Top Ten last week, keeping its balance at the top one week on. But the first complete Steam charts release in weeks has shaken up the status quo with sudden indie sequels and a survival genre revival.

The surprise launch of Risk of Rain 2 following Gearbox’s Borderlands-centric PAX event has seen the sci-fi sequel quickly soar to No.2, peaking at 63,354 concurrent players this weekend, according to SteamCharts

Smashing survival elements into a fantasy RPG, Nine Dots Studio’s Outward launched a little under a week ago to take No. 5. Aiming at a darker sword-and-sorcery tone, Grim Dawn’s eldritch expansion Forgotten Gods brings the action-RPG into the weekly charts at No.6.

Tropico 6, the latest in the banana republic building franchise, launched last week to claim No.7 in the Steam Top Ten. With the speculative rural Swedish flair of a Simon Stalenhag painting, Generation Zero camps comfortably at No.8.

Finally, a 50 per cent price drop brings No Man’s Sky into orbit at No.10. The sale comes ahead of a major update this summer that has already promised VR support for the ambitious astronaut.

Below is the Steam Top Ten for the week ending March 30th:

  1. Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, Activision
  2. Risk of Rain 2, Gearbox Publishing
  3. PUBG Survivor Pass 3: Wild Card, PUBG Corp
  4. Outward Day One, Deep Silver
  5. Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds, PUBG Corp
  6. Grim Dawn - Forgotten Gods, Crate Entertainment
  7. Tropico 6, Kalypso Media
  8. Generation Zero, Avalanche Studios
  9. Grand Theft Auto V, Rockstar Games
  10. No Man’s Sky, Hello Games
