Polish games firm CD Projekt has appointed Gabriel Amatangelo the new game director of Cyberpunk 2077.
As reported by GamesIndustry.biz, he joined the company in January 2020 as a creative director. During his career he spent ten years working at Electronic Arts - namely its Mythic Entertainment and BioWare studios. He is credited on both the Jaws of Hakkon and Trespasser DLCs for 2014's Dragon Age: Inquisition, as well as Star Wars MMO The Old Republic.
In his new role at CD Projekt, Amatangelo will be leading work on the upcoming expansions for Cyberpunk 2077. He replaces Adam Badowski, who is apparently now overseeing other projects at the studio as part of its transition to working on multiple games.
Amatangelo promotion comes in the wake of Witcher 3 director Konrad Tomaszkiewicz departing CD Projekt following an investigation into bullying.
Cyberpunk 2077 launched in December 2020 with a wealth of bugs and issues. These were so severe that Sony pulled the PS4 game from the PlayStation Store. CD Projekt co-founder Marcin Iwiński admitted that management was responsible for this botched release as it was the board's decision to release the game at the end of 2020.
Between its launch and the end of December 2020, Cyberpunk 2077 sold 13.7 million copies.
