Blizzard vet Heinecke is Square Enix's new CMO

Square Enix has a brand new chief marketing officer.

John Heinecke joins from his previous role as VP of global publishing for none other than Overwatch over at Blizzard, per a post on Square Enix's website

During his time at Blizzard, he has worked on franchises including Overwatch, Hearthstone, StarCraft 2 as well as several World of Warcraft expansions. In addition, he contributed to the launch of esports initiative the Overwatch League.

In his new role, he will be handling marketing globally, reporting to Square Enix West chief Phil Rogers.

“We are tremendously excited to welcome John Heinecke to the Square Enix family,” said Rogers. “John’s experience and knowledge will be instrumental in leading our marketing efforts."

Heinecke added: “Square Enix has some of the most storied franchises in gaming and I am very excited to join the team. I look forward to building cutting edge marketing campaigns that help to grow our global audience and to build passionate communities around our amazing games.”
