PC Connects London 2019 - Meet the Speakers - Max Pears, CD Projekt RED

Ahead of PC Connects London 2019 on January 21st and 22nd we are catching up with some of the big names that we have on-stage at the show.

Today, level designer Max Pears from Cyberpunk 2077 developer CD Projekt RED tells us a bit about his role at the Polish games giant and what he will be speaking about at

Tell us a bit about the company. What does your role entail?

CD Projekt RED is a polish gaming company, known for their key role-playing franchise The Witcher. We as a studio constantly look to push storytelling further than it has ever been in our medium. We are The industry leader in creating role-playing games. I create they playable space in which players will explore, interact and enter combat scenarios. My role is to make sure these spaces are not only engaging but have the correct pace, and believability.

Why did you want to work in the games industry?

After seeing what the medium could do after playing Metal Gear Solid at the age of 6, I was hooked. I see this medium as a way to engage with people like never before. I want to be a part which helps take this industry to the next level.

What advice would you give to anyone looking to get into it?

Do as much personal work as possible. So many courses are available right now and the competition to enter is becoming overcrowded. By doing your own work you will be able to improve your craft but also gave a folio which stands out.

What are your thoughts on the industry in the last 12 months?

I think the quality has improved, the amount of great games coming out is very high and I feel we are starting to hit a big stride.

How has the games industry changed since you first started?

I think the tech is changing. When I started I was making mobile games if I look now at where they were to where they are now it is insane and great to see. I feel indie games are taking new concepts and pushing them than we have ever seen which is great.

Which part of the Connects event are you most looking forward to and why?

I am looking forward to the panels because it will be fantastic to see so many professionals points of views and hear others great thoughts.
