Blizzard's platform and tech team unionises

The platform and tech teams at Blizzard have voted to unionise.

That's according to Game Developer, which reports that over 400 staff in these departments have voted to form a bargaining unit. This union has been recognised by Microsoft per its labour neutrality agreement with Communication Workers of America (CWA). This union is also being represented by CWA.

"Having more unions increase workplace standards across the board," organising committee members Daniel Weltz, Alex Kohn, and Timothy Biley told Game Developer.

"Workplaces will now have to offer certain things in order to remain competitive to workers."

"The industry itself also tends to view the people who make video games as disposable...we're hopeful that with more unions in the industry, we can turn that perception around."

This news follows over 450 staff at Blizzard working on the Diablo franchise voting to unionise, as well as staff in the company's story and franchise teams.
