Remedy writes down $17m as FBC: Firebreak continues to disappoint

Finnish games firm Remedy has written down €14.9 million ($17.3 million).

In a profit warning note to investors, the company said that this non-capital impairment represents "a majority" of the development costs, publishing and distribution rights for FBC: Firebreak.

As a result, Remedy has revised its forecasts for the full financial year; while it still expects revenue to increase year-on-year, the company now believes that its operating profit will take a dive and will, in fact, be negative.

FBC Firebreak launched in June of this year and had a rather weak release, by Remedy's own admission. Since the company has made several additions to the game, including a major update called Breakpoint that came out in September, but this appears to have done little to bolster its sales.

“Remedy is recognising a non-cash impairment of capitalised development costs and allocated purchased publishing and distribution rights related to FBC: Firebreak," Remedy CEO Tero Virtala said.

"While we balance future investments to the title, we continue developing and improving the game in line with our updated long-term sales forecast."
