Developer Bungie is set to roll out a new test for its upcoming Marathon.
In a post on its website, the studio revealed that it would be holding a technical beta for the troubled extraction shooter between October 22nd and 28th. The test is invite only; those who want to take part can sign up now.
The beta is covered by a non-disclosure agreement, perhaps unsurprisingly given the very public and negative response some previous tests have received
"This is an important checkpoint for us as we test our improvements since Alpha, including three maps, five runner shells, prox chat, re-tuned combat pacing, solo queue, deeper environmental storytelling, and more," Bungie wrote.
"That said, the Technical Test build is a work in progress and will only include a portion of what’s planned for Marathon’s full release, focused on the early player experience."
Bungie announced Marathon back in 2023. The title was set for a September 2025 release, but this was delayed after an alpha test that was met with a sour response from its audience. There was also the small matter of stolen art allegedly appearing in the game. The title currently has no release date.
Marathon is part of Sony's push into live-service games, though by the company's own admission, this has not gone very well.
