Discord, Steam, Twitch and Reddit bosses called to testify before US Congress

The CEOs of Discord, Steam, Twitch and Reddit have been called to testify before the United States Congress.

In a press release, the chair of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, James Comer (pictured), invited Discord boss Humam Sakhnini, Valve's Gabe Newell, Dan Clancy of Twitch and Reddit chief Steve Huffman to give evidence on the "radicalisation of online forum users" in the wake of the murder of right-wing influencer Charlie Kirk earlier this month.

The hearing is set to take place on October 8th.

“The politically motivated assassination of Charlie Kirk claimed the life of a husband, father, and American patriot," Comer wrote.

"In the wake of this tragedy, and amid other acts of politically motivated violence, Congress has a duty to oversee the online platforms that radicals have used to advance political violence. To prevent future radicalisation and violence, the CEOs of Discord, Steam, Twitch, and Reddit must appear before the Oversight Committee and explain what actions they will take to ensure their platforms are not exploited for nefarious purposes."
