The general manager of the Diablo franchise, Rod Fergusson, is leaving Blizzard Entertainment.
The industry vet announced the news on social media, though gave no hint as to where he is off to next. Fergusson joined Blizzard back in February 2020 having previously spent over 15 years working on the Gears of War franchise, first at Epic Games and then at Microsoft's The Coalition studio.
"After five years of driving the Diablo franchise forward with four big launches, it's time for me to step away from Blizzard/Microsoft, sword in hand, and see what's next," Fergusson wrote.
"The teams are set up for success, with an exciting slate of releases ahead. I'm incredibly proud of what we've built together and looking forward to what comes next for Diablo, and for me."
Xbox boss Phil Spencer replied to Fergusson's news, thanking him for his service.
"You brought strength, hellfire, and vision to one of gaming’s most iconic franchises. Playing Diablo IV with you was a blast—thanks for everything you gave to the game and the community," he wrote.
There's no word as to who will be replacing Fergusson at Blizzard.
