Indie storefront Itch.io says it is reindexing free NSFW games.
In a post on its website, company founder Leaf Corcoran said that it was putting free adult content back on its site, with paid games set to return as time goes on. Furthermore, the Itch.io boss said that he is in discussions with payment providers over the recent "scrutiny" the site has experienced over its content in recent weeks.
As part of this situation, Itch.io is introducing a new "content warning" system to ensure that pages are appropriately tagged as being NSFW. While this feature hasn't been rolled out just yet, developers will need to tag their project in order to be reindexed onto the platform.
Furthermore, Itch.io has been in discussions with payment provider Stripe about the ongoing situation; the company has said that it will not work with the games platform on content that it deems "designed for sexual gratification".
"Stripe is currently unable to support sexually explicit content due to restrictions placed on them by their banking partners, despite card networks generally supporting adult content (with the appropriate registrations)," the company wrote.
"Stripe has indicated that they hope to be able to support adult content in the future."
