French publishing giant Ubisoft has appointed Christophe Derennes and Charlie Guillemot as co-CEOs of its new Tencent-backed subsidiary.
Derennes was previously the managing director for Ubisoft's North American arm and has worked at the company since 1997. Charlie Guillemot, meanwhile, is the son of co-founder Yves Guillemot and has spent time leading Ubisoft's Owlient studio before founding a web3 games studio called Unagi.
This new division is handling Ubisoft's core franchises, Assassin's Creed, Rainbow Six and Far Cry and has been backed by Tencent to the tune of $1.25 billion.
"Our long-term objective with this new subsidiary is to grow these iconic brands – while remaining loyal to their DNA – into experiences that are constantly enriching and surprising to our players," Derennes said.
"When we look at the evolution of Assassin's Creed, Rainbow Six, and Far Cry since their creation, we can see that they are no longer just games, they are universes with a host of new possibilities available to us. We will keep expanding their reach by blending legacy and innovation."
