Obsidian vet Carrie Patel has joined Netflix

The former director of Avowed, Carrie Patel, has moved to join Netflix.

In a post on LinkedIn, the development vet announced that she was joining Night School Studio, which is owned by the streaming giant. Patel is going to be a game director there.

She previously spent almost 12 years at Obsidian, joining back in 2013 as a narrative director. Three years later, she was promoted to narrative co-lead before rising to senior narrative designer in 2018. Finally in November 2019 she was promoted to game director. Over her career at Obsidian, she has worked on Pillars of Eternity, Pillars of Eternity 2, The Outer Worlds and Avowed.

Netflix acquired Night School Studio back in 2021 as its first move into games; before its purchase, the developer was best known for its work on Oxenfree. In February 2025, the streaming giant announced that it was making layoffs at Night School.

This also coincided with a wealth of change at Netflix; the company closed down its triple-A focused Blue studio, while games boss Mike Verdu moved into a new role – being replaced by Epic vet Alain Tascan – before leaving the company altogether.
