The developer of Hyper Light Drifter, Heart Machine, has made cuts to its staff. 

In a statement to Game Developer, the studio said that a "portion" of workers had been made redundant. In addition, Heart Machine said that staff would be paid severance and provided healthcare for some time. 

The studio added that it would be crediting staff that had been laid off – a surprisingly uncommon practice – as well as honouring revenue sharing agreements it had with workers. 

"Hyper Light Breaker's upcoming launch will not be impeded by this sad news–in fact, a strong and timely launch will rekindle opportunities for those affected as we look to evolve and grow the game throughout Early Access," the studio's community and PR manager, Yiyi Zhang, said. 

"Our other projects, including Possessor(s), will also remain unaffected," said 

"We really appreciate our communities who have rallied in support of our studio and others in similar positions, and are hopeful for what's on the horizon for our upcoming games, our colleagues, and the industry as a whole."

Heart Machine is best known for 2016's Hyper Light Drifter and is working on a sequel, Hyper Light Breaker. That is set to go into Early Access in 2025 and is apparently unaffected by the layoffs.
