Football organisation FIFA is teaming up with Japanese firm Konami as its esports partner. 

This deal will mean the FIFAe World Cup will still take place. Previously, FIFA – predictably – teamed up with Electronic Arts for this but seeing as that relationship has soured and ultimately fallen apart, perhaps it's unsurprising that the football firm is looking elsewhere. 

Konami will be running two FIFAe World Cup events within its eFootball series later this year. 

"At Konami, we have continued to take on challenges in the development of football simulation and esports," Konami senior exec officer Koji Kobayashi said. 

"We are very pleased to be able to contribute to the promotion of eFootball in a new dimension through this collaboration with FIFAe.

"We would like to express our sincere gratitude to FIFA for providing us with this opportunity. We can't wait for the FIFAe World Cup to begin. We look forward to sharing the enthusiasm, excitement, and joy of our players around the world through the FIFAe World Cup."

Romy Gai, FIFA's chief business officer, added: "We are incredibly excited to join forces with Konami.
