Warframe studio Digital Extremes making layoffs

The developer of Warframe, Digital Extremes, is cutting some of its staff.

As reported by PC Gamer, the company is laying off its publishing division. Digital Extremes announced that it was releasing action RPG Wayfinder from developer Airship Syndicate at The Game Awards 2022 but revealed that it is handing back control of the project to that studio.

The exact number of employees losing their jobs hasn't been specified.

"We can confirm we have made the difficult decision to cease operations of our external projects division," a Digital Extremes spokesperson said.

"We had to say goodbye to a number of hardworking and highly valuable team members as a result and we're working with Airship to transition full control of Wayfinder to them in the coming months."

This is the latest set of layoffs in the games industry this year.

Digital Extremes' founder and CEO James Schmalz left the company last month.
