PlayStation buying AI video delivery firm ISize

PlayStation maker Sony Interactive Entertainment is acquiring AI tech firm iSize.

The terms of the deal have not been disclosed. ISize was founded back in 2016 and specialises in "deep learning for video delivery". This includes tech that allows video to be streamed at a higher quality and a "significantly" lower bitrate.

It's unclear how this relates to Sony's games business, but it might be related to the company's streaming offering.

"ISize builds AI-powered solutions to deliver bitrate savings and quality improvements for the media and entertainment industry," Ueli Gallizzi, senior vice president of SIE's Future Technology Group, said.

"The acquisition provides SIE with significant expertise in applying machine learning to video processing, which will benefit a range of our R&D efforts as well as our video and streaming services."
