Epic to introduce IARC ratings to Fortnite

Fortnite maker Epic Games is bringing International Age Rating Coalition (IARC) ratings to content in the title.

The partnership will see IARC give a rating to all first and third party content in the battle royale behemoth. These start with E for everyone and go up to T for Teen. Ratings will be displayed prominently to help parents and guardians figure out whether content is appropriate for their children.

Parents and guardians will also be able to block content above a certain age rating using Fortnite's Parental Controls.

IARC ratings are coming to Fortnite on November 14th. Any unrated islands will be dropped at that point.

“By implementing the IARC rating system within Fortnite, Epic continues to elevate its commitment to providing families with tools to make informed decisions about which experiences are appropriate for their children,”I ARC chair and ESRB president Patricia Vance said.

“As Fortnite evolves from its Battle Royale roots into a broader ecosystem containing a variety of content from Epic and other creators, it’s especially important that parents have a clear understanding of what their children want to access.”
