Respawn is exploring a new IP

The developer of Titanfall and Apex Legends Respawn is currently working on a brand new IP.

That's according to the company's co-founder and boss Vince Zampella, who told Axios that Titanfall franchise director Steve Fukuda is heading up a "very small" team that is looking into a new intellectual property. Said team is "skunkworks" team.

“The mission is to find the fun in something new," Zampella said.

He continued: “At the end of the day, it's interactive entertainment, so that interactive portion has to feel good.

“The story can be great, and it has to be great, especially in Star Wars, right? But if it doesn't feel good, who cares?”

This interview comes in the wake of Respawn launching its second Star Wars title, Jedi Survivor.

Zampella co-founded Respawn back in 2012 following his rather explosive exit from Call of Duty maker Infinity Ward. In 2021, he was brought in to head up EA's Battlefield brand

Word that Respawn is working on a new brand echoes remarks made back in 2021 from the studio that while it was committed to the Titanfall brand, it looks like we shouldn't expect a new entry in the series any time soon
