Japanese publishing giant Capcom is teaming up with production company Legendary Entertainment for a Street Fighter movie.

The news was revealed on Twitter, in which the publisher said that this was in fact going to be a live-action movie. In a post on Capcom's investor relations portal, the company said that it was also working on a TV show and that this strategy would help strengthen video game sales.

"The company strongly believes that adapting its game content into movies and television shows provides opportunities to build awareness of its brands with a wide audience that extends beyond the game market," Capcom wrote.

"In working with Legendary, which boasts a track record of numerous hit films, Capcom aims to further enhance the value of its IPs throughout the globe."

Legendary has worked on huge brands such as the Christopher Nolan Batman movies, Pacific Rim and Dune. It also was one of the companies involved in adapting Warcraft for the silver screen.

In the past, Street Fighter has been adapted to film, though only really successfully in an animated format. There was 2009's The Legend of Chun Li, which boasts a score of 17 on Metacritic.

This news comes ahead of Street Fighter 6's launch in June of this year.
