Epic to launch Fortnite Unreal editor

Epic Games is set to release the Unreal Editor for Fortnite.

That's according to CEO Tim Sweeney, who told Fast Company that the plan was to launch this tech later in 2022. The exec says that this will allow anyone with the software to implement their own creations into Fortnite.

This follows on from Fortnite Creative, which launched back in 2018 and allowed consumers to build their own Fortnite islands.

"Our aim is to make it a first-class outlet for reaching the consumers, just like you might look at the mobile app stores and consoles and Steam as ways to reach users," Sweeney said.

"Now people are also looking at Fortnite, and at Roblox, as ways of reaching users. Along with that, we’re building an economy, and it will support creators actually building businesses around their work and making increasing amounts of profit from the commerce that arises from people playing their content."

As of May 2020, Fortnite boasts 350 million users.
