Return Entertainment raises $6m for cloud games

Finland's Return Entertainment has raised €5.3 million ($6 million) in funding for cloud-native game development.

The firm revealed the news on LinkedIn, with Bitkraft Ventures led the investment round, while Sisu Game Ventures, Vgames, 1Up Fund, and SMOK Ventures also took part.

"Our first funding round landed us at the perfect weather to do the thing we like to spend roughly half our waking hours on – bringing easy access games to everyone’s device of choice."

Speaking to GamesBeat, Return CEO Antti Sartanen added: “Our definition of a cloud-native game is a game that uses the cloud to advantage.

"We want to be one of the first ones to figure out what is the best use of this platform. How do we make games that aren’t possible on other platforms? More shareable? Games that can blur the line between players, viewers, and streamers?”
