Itch.io: "NFTs are a scam"

Games platform Itch.io has clarified its stance on non-fungible tokens – safe to say that the company is not on board with the new business model.

Taking to Twitter, the firm said that it considered NFTs a financial scam and that they are actively harmful to the planet. This news comes in the wake of NFTs becoming more common within the video games space, including firms like Team17, Atari and Ubisoft.

"NFTs are a scam," the firm said.

"If you think they are legitimately useful for anything other than the exploitation of creators, financial scams, and the destruction of the planet the we ask that please reevaluate your life choices."

The company continued: "Also f*ck any company that says they support creators and also endorses NFTs in any way. They only care about their own profit and the opportunity for wealth above anyone else.

"specially given the now easily available discourse concerning the problems of NFTs."
