Ex Starbreeze CEO Nermark has passed away

The former CEO of Swedish games firm Starbreeze Mikael Nermark has passed away aged 50.

The news was revealed in a post from his LinkedIn account by Liquid Swords' Christofer Sundberg, in which he said that he had died from cancer. Nermark is survived by his wife Åsa and three children.

"Mikael have fought against his cancer for a year, and he have fought hard," Sundberg wrote.

"His strength under the circumstances is truly inspirational and gives us all a perspective on life. He lived every day like it mattered because it does and that is something we should all take with us as we honor his memory. His laugh, his guidance to us who have worked with him, his calm, his knowledge, his humor, and his voice will be with us forever. Gone, but never forgotten."

Nermark worked at Starbreeze for 11 years, rising to the position of CEO and president when the company was thrust into administration at the end of 2018. He stewarded the firm through this tough period, emerging 12 months later.

Nermark was succeeded by Tobias Sjögren in October 2020.

Our thoughts are with his family in this tough time.
