Bloober Team wants to be horror top dog in games

The developer of Layers of Fear, Observer and The Medium Bloober Team has said it wants to be the No.1 for horror in games.

That's according to studio founder Piotr Babieno, who told GamesIndustry.biz that it wanted to be the "Blumhouse of the games industry," a reference to the highly-successful production studio behind the likes of Paranormal Activity, Get Out and The Purge.

"From the first day we talked about [making] horror games, we said we wanted to be the Blumhouse of the games industry," Babieno said.

To start off with, Bloober went for more mainstream and less intense projects in order to not scare off investors.

"I put the ambition to create huge [narrative] horror games into my pocket, because our investors wanted to work on something that would bring in money," Babieno explained.

"And for project after project, we worked on what we thought would be successful [games], but at the end of the day we were in the middle. Sometimes those projects were successful from a financial point of view, sometimes not."

Bloober Team is also in mergers and acquisitions talks at the moment.
