Atari has delayed the crowfunding campaign and pre-order push for its brand new Ataribox hardware.
In an email, it was announced that due to some unspecified problem, the crowdfunding push would be delayed.
“Because of one key element on our checklist, it is taking more time to create the platform and ecosystem the Atari community deserves,” Atari said.
“Building Ataribox is incredibly important to us and we will do whatever it takes to be sure it is worth the wait.”
An updated roadmap is going to be announced in the coming weeks.
The Ataribox is the first new bit of hardware from the former games industry giant in more than 20 years. The box itself will play old-school Atari games, but also attempts to compete in the PC games space, able to play mid-level PC titles.
Perhaps intentional, we actually know alarmingly little about the Ataribox. It still hasn't been announced what classic games will ship with the hardware, or even whether new games will be coming to this machine.
Earlier this year, Atari said its new hardware would succeed where Valve's Steam Machines failed, which is a pretty bold statement.
