Atari has acquired Transport Tycoon

Legacy games brand Atari has acquired Transport Tycoon from its creator, Chris Sawyer.

No figure has been placed on the deal, which will allow Atari to publish the title digitally and physically. That's on top of the potential for new entries in the series to be created, as well as exploring merchandising and branding opportunities.

Transport Tycoon was initially released in 1994; the most recent entry in the franchise was a mobile port that came out in 2013.

“We are honoured that Chris has entrusted us with Transport Tycoon and our team is committed to both honouring and advancing his groundbreaking creation,” Atari chair and boss Wade Rosen (pictured) said.

In the last year, Atari has acquired the Surgeon Simulator series and the publishing rights for Rollercoaster Tycoon 3. That's on top of buying Nightdive and Digital Eclipse in 2023.
