Paradox Interactive has established a new studio in Malmö, Sweden which will focus entirely on developing mobile games.
The new office is made up of a small team of experienced developers and has been tasked with creating games with "deep, challenging experiences".
Paradox is known for its hardcore strategy games, including the Europa Universalis series and city-builder Cities: Skylines. On mobile it has previously released the RPG series Knights of Pen & Paper.
Leading the charge
"Paradox is committed to exploring new territory in mobile game development, and I'm eager to lead that charge," said Kim Nordström, SVP of Innovation and Mobile at Paradox Interactive.
"Our plan is to bring the iconic Paradox style to mobile players across a broad catalog of titles. To achieve that, it's important that we bring aboard the right people – people capable of delivering the kind of hardcore strategic titles we're known for on PC."
The first game in Paradox's new mobile slate is a free-to-play port of Introversion Software's Prison Architect. It has already been soft-launched under the name Prison Architect: Mobile.
