Razer reportedly raises up to $100 million in investment, signs new branding and data deal with Three

Hardware manufacturer Razer has entered into a global strategic alliance with mobile network Three.

The alliance will see the Three offering up gamer-focused tariffs for its network users, as well as branded Razer phones to target fans of the brand.

Three users will also be given access to Razer's own virtual currency, zGold, for use on the service.

In return, Razer will sell its mobile gaming accessories in partnership with Three stores, as well as using the network's mobile data services. The two companies will jointly launch a new RazerStore in Hong Kong in June 2017.

Cutting-edge

"We are incredibly excited about joining forces with the Three Group to bring our cutting-edge gamer lifestyle to their audiences," said Min-Liang Tan, co-founder and CEO of Razer.

"From co-branding to mobile and virtual currencies – we're excited to work with the Three Group to reach out to the youth in their markets."

As well as the partnership, TechCrunch reports that Razer has secured between $50 million and $100 million from VC Horizons Ventures. The investment is thought to value Razer at close to $2 billion, though specific figures were unavailable.

Interestingly, VC Horizons is run by Li Ka-shing, the Chairman of CK Hutchison, a company that owns Three.

Razer has been stepping further into mobile in 2017. In January it acquired smartphone manufacturer Nextbit, responsible for the Robin Android phone, for an undisclosed sum.
