Call of Duty developer Sledgehammer Games is opening a new office in Australia.
The news was revealed by producer Alayna Cole at the New Zealand Game Developers Conference - as posted on Twitter (below) - who revealed that she was the first hire at Sledgehammer Melbourne.
“You’re looking at the first official hire at @SHGames Melbourne! I am so excited to say I will be starting there as a producer on Monday, and helping to grow our studio in my new home,” said Cole.
Sledgehammer already had a presence in Melbourne according to InGames Australia, with a small engineering team. According to LinkedIn, Sledgehammer employs eight people in Australia, including Cole. However, it would seem that the company is now cementing its presence with a fully-fledged games studio.
The Activision-owned company is best known for its work on the Call of Duty franchise, most notably Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and Call of Duty WWII.
We’ve reached out to Activision for more details.
