GDC hires Katie Stern as new GM

The Game Developers Conference has a new general manager staring shortly.

As of August 7th, Katie Stern will be heading up the organisation. Stern comes with event experience having been the co-founder of 3D printing and wearable tech event Designers of Things. That’s on top of her role as director of event services for the Linux Fonundation.

Stern’s appointment follows the departure of Meggan Scavio, who left the general manager seat in June.

"I couldn't be more excited to be joining up with GDC to help the game industry and the event keep growing and flourishing," said Stern.

"I very much look forward to talking to the community about what's next for the event over the next few years."

The EVP of show organisers UBM Technology Simon Carless will be supporting Stern in her role. Meanwhile, Victoria Petersen, who has worked with GDC on its various advisory boards, will be stepping into the role of lead conference manager.

Carless added: “Having attended or been involved in organising GDC for almost twenty years, I am keenly aware of the needs of the game development community, and I'm stoked to be working with Katie to tell the next chapter of GDC's storied history."

GDC returns to San Francisco’s Moscone Center between Monday, March 19th and Friday, March 23rd.
