An anime film based on Polish fantasy novel series The Witcher is launching on Netflix at some point in the future.
The streaming service confirmed the news on Twitter (below), saying that The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf is being made by the team behind the live-action TV series which launched at the end of 2019, including showrunner Lauren Hissrich and writer Beau DeMayo. The project is being made by Korean animation outfit Studio MIR, best known for Avatar: The Last Airbender spinoff The Legend of Korra.
This comes off the back of The Witcher TV show on Netflix making something of a splash, with the streaming platform telling investors in its most recent financial report that 76m households tuned in to watch the fantasy show starring Superman actor Henry Cavill (pictured) in the four weeks following its December release. In addition, the company says that it is on track to be its biggest first series of a TV show to date.
A second series of the live-action show is on the way. Previously Hissrich said that she has seven series of The Witcher planned out.
The rumors are true, a new Witcher story is in the works! The anime film, The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf, will take us back to a new threat facing the Continent. Brought to you by the Witcher team @LHissrich and @BeauDeMayo, and Studio Mir the studio behind Legend of Korra.
