Developers who worked on the Guitar Hero franchise have reformed RedOctane Games. 

The venture is being headed up by Activision veteran Simon Ebejer, who previously worked at Neversoft, Vicarious Visions and Blizzard. During his time, he has worked on Guitar Hero 3: Legends of Rock, Aerosmith, Metallica, World Tour, Guitar Hero 5, Band Hero and Warriors of Rock. 

He is joined by Charles and Kai Huang, who originally created the Guitar Hero franchise, who will be sitting on RedOctane's special advisory board.  

If the RedOctane name sounds familiar, it's because a previous interation of the company was formed by the Huangs back in 1999; it was via this company that the original Guitar Hero was released back in 2005. Activision acquired RedOctane in a deal reported to be worth $99.9 million the following year. In 2010, the Call of Duty giant closed down the company. 

This new version of RedOctane has been formed under Embracer's Freemode publishing label. 

Unsurprisingly, RedOctane's focus is on rhythm games.

"Rhythm games are about more than just gameplay; they're about feel, flow, and connection to the music and to each other," Ebejer said.  

"RedOctane Games is our way of giving back to a genre that means so much to us, while pushing it forward in new and exciting directions."
