The developer of Forza Motorsport, Turn 10, has been affected by the massive layoffs going on at Microsoft.
The Verge reports that over 70 members of staff have been let go from the studio. This news was broken to workers in a call with human resources reps from Microsoft and are seemingly hitting the "vast majority" of Turn 10.
Apparently there's enough staff left to maintain Forza Motorsport.
Microsoft has cut its workforce by four per cent, or roughly 9,000 members of staff. News of how this is impacting the company's Xbox division is dripping out slowly and often unofficially.
So far we know that the Big M has cancelled several projects, including Perfect Dark, Everwild and an unannounced MMO from ZeniMax Online Studios codenamed Blackbird. We also know that Microsoft has closed its Santa Monica studio, The Initiative.
As if that wasn't enough, ZeniMax Online Studios boss Matt Firor is departing after over 18 years at the company.
"I recognise that these changes come at a time when we have more players, games, and gaming hours than ever before. Our platform, hardware, and game roadmap have never looked stronger," Xbox boss Phil Spencer told staff in an internal memo.
"The success we're seeing currently is based on tough decisions we've made previously. We must make choices now for continued success in future years and a key part of that strategy is the discipline to prioritise the strongest opportunities. We will protect what is thriving and concentrate effort on areas with the greatest potential, while delivering on the expectations the company has for our business. This focused approach means we can deliver exceptional games and experiences for players for generations to come."
