The developer of MindsEye, Build A Rocket Boy, is poised to make layoffs.
IGN reports that the company sent emails telling its roughly 300 UK staff that they were at risk of redundancy. Workers at PlayFusion, which Build A Rocket Boy has owned since 2024, have also been told they might be losing their jobs.
MindsEye launched in early June and received a poor reception, both critically and seemingly commercially. The title was released with myriad technical issues, which Build A Rocket Boy has tried to amend.
Speaking to staff on July 3rd, co-CEO and founder Leslie Benzies said that MindsEye's problems included 'internal and external saboteurs,' according to IGN. Um. Okay then. This is a similar to comments made by Build A Rocket Boy's other co-CEO – Mark Gerhard – before the game's release, where he said there was a "concerted effort" to "trash the game and the studio".
Maybe you shouldn't have released a broken and unfinished game, fellas?
For what it's worth, MindsEye's publisher, Hitman giant has said that it doesn't believe there was any effort to sabotage the game.
