Space Marine 2 hits 5m players

Warhammer 40,000 shooter Space Marine 2 has been played by over five million people since its launch back in September.

That's according to publisher Focus Entertainment, who released the sales figure alongside details about an upcoming patch for the dark sci-fi shooter. Within 24 hours of its release on September 9th, Space Marine 2 had brought in over two million players. Bringing in another three million in the months since is pretty good going and has perhaps been assisted by the 20 per cent discount as part of the current Steam Sale.

"Huge thanks to everyone who's joined the fight," Focus wrote.

"It’s been incredible to see the community grow (and to keep seeing it grow)! Here’s to many more battles ahead."

In a post on Twitter, the publisher added: "It is our duty to extend a huge thanks to you all for continuing to provide feedback on the game, creating content, and showing your love and support."

Back in October, Focus parent company Pullup revealed that Space Marine 2's launch had contributed to a 1,200 per cent increase in new game revenue
