ProbablyMonsters lays off Battle Barge staff

Developer incubator ProbablyMonsters has laid off staff in its BattleBarge team.

Game Developer reports that "around 50" members of staff have been made redundant, according to a former employee on LinkedIn. Other staff have corroborated the news.

In a statement, ProbablyMonsters said that this was a "realignment to support smaller, more nimble teams and projects."

The company continued: "We believe this format better matches the needs of players and the market. Our hearts go out to everyone impacted as we navigate the new realities of the gaming landscape as an independent company."

ProbablyMonsters was founded in 2019 by former Bungie boss Harold Ryan as an incubator for game developers. One such studio was Firewalk, which was sold to PlayStation back in 2023. That developer has since been shut down on the back of the poor performance of its hero shooter, Concord.
