Disney vet Scarpone joins Sega as transmedia boss

Entertainment veteran John Scarpone has been hired by Sega as its new global head of transmedia.

In a message to investors, the Japanese games giant said that the former Disney senior vice president is coming on board on April 1st and will be working to bring Sega's portfolio of IP to other mediums. These include its Persona, Like a Dragon and Angry Birds franchises.

"I look forward to working with our team and partners around the world, harnessing the strength of Sega's rich IP to deliver new stories, innovative consumer products, and new entertainment services, all while putting our fan's and communities first," Scarpone wrote on LinkedIn.

"Can't wait to work with Haruki Satomi, Shuji Utsumi, and the rest of Team Sega."

Scarpone worked at Disney for 17 years in a variety of roles until 2019. From there he moved to mobile firm Scopely before a series of advisory positions across the games, music and web3 industries.
