Former Donkey Kong king Billy Mitchell suing Twin Galaxies

The former world champion at Donkey Kong Billy Mitchell is suing video games scoreboard Twin Galaxies for defamation.

As reported by Ars Technica, Mitchell filed a lawsuit with the Los Angeles County Court in April 2019, apparently to have it fit with the state's statute of limitations on defamation cases.

This follows Twin Galaxies stripping Mitchell of his records, saying that he did not achieve these achievements on unmodified Donkey Kong arcade hardware. In September 2019, Mitchell and his lawyers said they'd take legal action if the high score organisation didn't go back on their decision.

Mitchell claims that Twin Galaxies' investigation into whether he used a modified arcade cabinet to set his records or not was "pre-ordained" and therefore wasn't fair.

He also reckons that the organisation was using him to generate publicity by calling him a cheat. Twin Galaxies didn't explicitly call Mitchell a cheater, instead just pointing out that it was impossible to do what he did on an unmodified Donkey Kong arcade cabinet.
