CHARTS: Doom Eternal shoots its way to the top spot

Bethesda once again stormed to the top of the Steam chart with its hellish shooter Doom Eternal.

The game is currently 25 per cent off, which is likely a reason for its Top Ten appearance. The game hit 104.5k concurrent users on Steam during its launch weekend. Furthermore, it had the best opening weekend in the series so far. Upon release, Doom Eternal forced its way to the top of the Steam chart.

At No.2 is Early Access game Scrap Mechanic. Axolot Games' title is on offer with 30 per cent off. Electronic Arts have two entries this week, in third place is Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. Likely due to the free content update released on May 4th, it included various cosmetics and game modes.

The publisher also closed the chart this week with Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order Deluxe Edition. Last week, it was revealed that 10 million people had played the game since launch. Fallen order boasted the most successful PC launch of any Star Wars game.

Rockstar sits in fourth place with Grand Theft Auto V. The law-defying title was the best-selling game of the last decade in the US and the UK. Maintaining its run in the Top Ten is Mount and Blade II: Bannerlord. TaleWorlds Entertainment's title held the top spot for three consecutive weeks.

Valve claimed the No.6 spot with its Index VR kit. The American firm has faced production issues for its hardware due to the coronavirus. The first of two places for Capcom is Monster Hunter World: Icebore at No.7. The fantasy RPG expansion has shipped five million copies worldwide as of March 2020.

The Japanese publisher also took ninth place with Monster Hunter: World. The monster-slaying game had shifted 13 million copies by July 2019. However, that number increased to 15 million in January 2020. By March 2019, 4.5 million copies were sold for PC.

Looter-shooter Borderlands 3 has taken the No.8 spot. 2K's title is set to have a movie adaptation, directed by Eli Roth with Cate Blancett possibly portraying Lillith. Upon hitting Steam in March, the game had 93.5k simultaneous users.

Here is the Steam Top Ten for the week ending May 9th:

  1. Doom Eternal, Bethesda
  2. Scrap Mechanic, Axolot Games (EA)
  3. Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, Electronic Arts
  4. Grand Theft Auto V, Rockstar
