2K makes job cuts at Firaxis

US publisher 2K Games has confirmed that it has made layoffs at Civilization maker Firaxis.

In a statement to Game Developer, the company declined to say how many staff were affected by this news, simply saying that redundancies had taken place. Workers impacted have said that dozens of people have been laid off.

2K hasn't filed a WARN notice in the state of Maryland, where Firaxis is based.

"We can confirm there was a staff reduction today at Firaxis Games, as the studio restructures and optimises its development process for adaptability, collaboration, and creativity," a rep for 2K said.

Confirmation from 2K follows posts on LinkedIn from staff announcing their being let go from the company. This includes workers in quality assurance, art and production.

Civilization 7 launched in 2023; while no sales figures have been shared, Take-Two boss Strauss Zelnick described them as "slow".
