Industry veteran Rod Fergusson is now the studio head over at BioShock dev Cloud Chamber.
That's according to Bloomberg's Jason Schreier, who posted on BlueSky that the company was also making an unknown number of layoffs. Parent company 2K Games hasn't filed a WARN notice with the state of California just yet, either.
Fergusson is replacing former studio head Kelley Filmore, who was fired following an internal review of the in-development BioShock title. Creative director Hogarth de la Plante was moved to a publishing position around the same time.
Fergusson also left Blizzard earlier in August, having joined the company to helm Diablo 4 in 2020. Before that he was studio head over at Gears of War maker The Coalition, but previously spent time at Irrational Games helping the studio finish off 2013's BioShock Infinite.
"I’m returning to 2K to lead a series that means a lot to me as the new Head of the BioShock Franchise. I’ll be heading up Cloud Chamber and overseeing development of the next BioShock game, along with franchise extensions like the in-development Netflix movie," Fergusson wrote on LinkedIn.
"Shipping BioShock Infinite, over 12 years ago, was a pivotal moment in my career as a leader. And while I’m excited for my return to the iconic series, alongside some familiar faces, I recognise the studio restructuring is a difficult time for the team. I’m deeply grateful to everyone who has been working so hard over the past several years on this next iteration and I’m committed to building upon that work to create a BioShock game we’ll be proud of, and our players will love."
