Publisher Kwalee cuts 10% of its workforce

UK developer and publisher Kwalee is cutting around ten per cent of its staff.

Mobilegamer reports that the firm is laying off less than 40 employees, though has not clarified what roles in particular have been impacted. It appears that the cuts are largely focused on its UK headquarters, though Kwalee's Indian office in Bangalore have been affected.

The company is, however, hiring around its new priorities.

“We are reshaping our business and our team to best capture the significant growth opportunities that currently exist in the sector, including hiring for 20 new roles,” a Kwalee rep said.

“Kwalee has the global scale, management expertise and security of funding, combined with a differentiated strategy to take advantage of organic and acquisitive growth opportunities.”

While Kwalee is largely focused on mobile – specifically the hypercasual space – the company is also publishes PC titles. These cuts are likely related to the changes Apple has made to its ecosystem.
