EA has received Guinness World Record for having Reddit's most downvoted comment ever

Publishing giant Electronic Arts has been awarded a Guinness World Record for having the single most downvoted comment on social media site Reddit.

As spotted by - ironically - Reddit user -amasha-, the company's comment about how 2017's Star Wars Battlefront II was being monetised has the most hated comment in the website's history.

It has 683,000 downvotes at the time of writing, which puts it well in the lead of second place, with has 'just' 88,906 downvotes at the time of writing. It also points to the rent-a-mob mentality of online communities, that a comment about video game monetisation is the most downvoted ever on a site with as broad-ranging topics as Reddit.

The comment was part of the backlash against EA for its rather aggressive monetisation options during the Star Wars Battlefront II beta. Likely due to the fact Star Wars was in the name, the story travelled far and wide with governments and gambling commissions investigating how video games were being monetised.

So far the matter is still up for debate in many regions
