The price increases for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate are being delayed in some parts of the world.
In an email to consumers in Germany, Ireland, South Korea, Poland and India – reported by The Verge – Microsoft said that the announced 50 per cent price hike was only affecting new subscribers and would not affect those already signed up. If consumers cancel and resubscribe, they will be on the new price.
“Our recent Game Pass update remains unchanged. Current subscribers in certain countries will continue renewing at their existing price for now, in line with local requirements," Xbox comms chief Kari Perez said.
"We’ll provide advance notice before price adjustments take effect in these countries."
It's worth noting that this will have little to do with any benevolence from our corporate overlords, but is rather more likely due to local legislation that impacts how things like subscription services are priced.
Last week, Xbox rejigged its Game Pass service; the company rebranded some tiers and introduced price increases for its Ultimate and PC tiers. The response from consumers has not been positive in the slightest.
