Canadian developer Blackbird Interactive has bought the IP for Hardspace: Shipbreaker.
The intellectual property was previously part-owned by the studio along with publisher Focus Entertainment. No figure has been put on the deal just yet.
Blackbird has said that it has multiple games in the works at the moment, but hasn't said whether or not they take place in the Hardspace: Shipbreaker franchise.
“It is rare to have an IP that resonates so deeply with millions of players,” the studio's president and chief creative officer, Rory McGuire, said.
“So we are honoured to have this opportunity to deepen and expand that connection through new games that explore the Hardspace universe. Shipbreaker also wouldn’t be what it is today without our friends at Focus Entertainment. We are eternally grateful for their partnership and hope to work with them again soon.”
Hardspace: Shipbreaker launched into Early Access back in 2020. Blackbird is working on a new title with the newly-formed Lyrical Games.
