Wargaming has officially opened its new UK studio in Guilford

World of Tanks developer Wargaming has officially launched its new UK studio.

Headed up by former EA VP of free-to-play and CCP Games SVP Sean Decker (pictured), the Guilford-based studio has been tasked with creating brand-new IP aimed at the next generation of free-to-play users.

The firm began staffing up for the location late last year, growing to 60 people but has now officially opened the studio with employee numbers looking to double in 2020.

To celebrate the launch, Wargaming UK hosted a 48-hour game jam, which pitted teams against one another in front of a panel of judges.

“Unique position”

“We are in a unique position – we have the backing of a global company and we have autonomy over our own creative direction – it’s really exciting,” said Decker.

“We are proud to be a part of Wargaming’s enduring legacy, as well as its reputation as a great company to work for. We want to continue building this quality across our UK team, with 30 positions currently open for application. We really believe that we can be the best place to make games in the UK”

Wargaming CEO Victor Kislyi added: “For Wargaming, the UK studio is a really exciting step in our expansion – and we are looking forward to releasing information on their new project. It is going to be big. It was a pleasure to celebrate with the team, and we are looking forward to watching them create something special.”
