Spelunky 2 has been announced

A sequel to cult classic roguelike platformer Spelunky has been revealed.

Announced on-stage during Sony’s Paris Games Week press event with a neat teaser trailer, the title appears to have users playing as the child of the original protagonist.

No release date has been announced just yet, but developer Mossmouth Games - i.e. solo game maker Derek Yu - has confirmed via Twitter that the game is indeed coming to Steam (below).

When announced, only a PS4 SKU was mentioned, obviously due to it being revealed on Sony’s stage.

The original Spelunky launched as a freeware product back in 2008, before being remade in 2012. it is credited with popularising the now-common roguelike genre of games.
