Xbox hit by Microsoft layoffs

Microsoft's games business is to be impacted by the layoffs the company is making.

As reported by Bloomberg, parts of Xbox Game Studios are seeing cuts, including Bethesda and 343 Industries. It's not clear how many people are losing their roles at the games division, though it appears that even Microsoft veterans are finding their jobs on the cutting board.

343 Industries studio head Pierre Hintze sent an email to staff saying that it “made the difficult decision to restructure elements of our team, which means some roles are being eliminated.”

This includes Halo Infinite creative director Joseph Staten, who is leaving the developer to work at Xbox's publishing division. He joined 343 Industries in August 2020 to help right the Halo Infinite ship.

Hintze said that it would continue to support the game's multiplayer and service elements.

This comes as Microsoft makes its third round of layoffs since July 2022. This current outing is seeing around 10,000 people losing their positions and comes amid a series of mass redundancies in the tech sector. Meta, Amazon and now Google are shedding roles due to the macroeconomic environment.
